Viscosity and mechanism of momentum transport. Newton's law of viscosity, theory of viscosity of gases and liquids, velocity distribution in laminar flow by shell momentum balance, flow through a circular tube, equation of continuity, the equation of motion, thermal conductivity and mechanism of energy transport, Fourier's law of heat conduction, temperature distribution in solids by shell energy balance, unsteady state conduction in solids, interphase energy transport, definition of heat transfer coefficient, diffusity and mechanism of mass transfer, Fick's law of diffusion (first and second), boiling and condensation.

Assessment includes assignments and examination.

This course is identical to PE ZC342.
